Overview
HNEDatasaver automatically applies your preferred default playback quality on YouTube™—from 144p “ultra saver” to 1080p/4K HD. Pick once in the popup and it just works, even across YouTube’s single-page navigations (watch pages, playlists, Shorts). If the exact tier isn’t available, it selects the closest lower quality automatically.

Set a persistent default quality: 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p (4K), 4320p (8K), or Auto
Re-applies briefly during playback to beat “Auto”
Works on watch pages, playlists, and Shorts (best effort)
Tiny popup UI; toolbar badge shows your chosen default (e.g., 360 / 1080 / 4K / AUTO)

Privacy & permissions
No tracking, no analytics, no remote code
Permissions: storage (to save your setting) + host access limited to youtube.com (to set quality)

Notes
If a video doesn’t offer your chosen quality, HNEDatasaver picks the nearest lower tier.
Some live streams or premium codecs may resist forced quality—we still try without affecting playback.
