Wordblock

WordBlock is a Chrome extension for language learners who read real webpages and want fast, in-context lookup without breaking flow.

What WordBlock does:

Instant on-page lookup card
Select or double-click a term to open a compact card directly on the page.
Bilingual lookup (English + Chinese)
English: definition, pronunciation, etymology, and prefix/root/suffix breakdown.
Chinese: pinyin, whole meaning, character map, and usage note.
Optional AI explanation
Supports OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, Kimi, and OpenAI-compatible endpoints.
Configure endpoint, model, and prompts in Options.
AI is optional and can be turned on/off at any time.
Learning records and review tools
Saves lookup history and favorites.
One-click copy for card/list content.
Export current list as CSV or JSON.
Soft-delete current list (History or Favorites) from the popup toolbar.
Popup controls and workflow
English-first popup UI with language toggle.
Page lookup can be toggled on/off from the popup.
Shortcut: Shift + Space to toggle page lookup quickly.
How to use:

Install the extension.
Select an English or Chinese term on any webpage.
Use the popup to search manually, review History/Favorites, copy, export, or clean current list.
Open Options to configure AI provider/model/prompts and test your AI config.
Notes:

AI is disabled by default.
If AI is enabled, users provide their own API key.
WordBlock is a learning aid and not a substitute for professional advice.
Permission Justification (for listing/privacy section)
Permissions used:

storage: stores local cache, lookup history, favorites, soft-delete state, and user AI settings.
host_permissions: enables lookup on the current webpage and requests to dictionary/etymology services.
Data behavior:

Lookup is triggered by explicit user action (selection/manual search), and can be turned off with the page lookup toggle.
No ad tracking and no data selling.
