Overview
If you're an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) or PIRR reservist in the Air Force Reserve Command, you already know the frustration. You open Chrome or Edge to manage your IDT schedule, click a date to mark it worked, and nothing happens. The button does nothing. The popup freezes. Somebody in your unit tells you that you have to use Internet Explorer — a browser Microsoft officially retired in 2022 — or route through a virtual machine just to complete a routine pay action.
Getting to UTAPS in the first place compounds the problem. There is no reliable direct link. The URL published in official AFRC documentation times out for most users. To reach UTAPS, reservists are required to log into the AF Portal, navigate from there to AROWS-R, locate the correct menu option, and follow a redirect chain that finally delivers them to UTAPS — multiple systems, multiple logins, and multiple points of failure before a single IDT can be validated. Miss a step, let your session expire, or follow a stale link from an old email, and you start the entire chain over.
These issues are known and documented compatibility and currency problems with the UTAPS scheduling system that has affected reservists since IE was sunset. Reservists have been forced to maintain access to outdated software, navigate through layered workarounds, and in some cases submit pay requests through a help-desk support cell just to accomplish what should take thirty seconds.
UTAPStack addresses both problems.
UTAPStack is a lightweight browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Once installed, it works silently in the background every time you visit UTAPS. You do not change how you use the system. You do not learn new steps. Everything you already know how to do works the way it was supposed to. Additionally, if you ever land on a UTAPS logged-out or session-expired page, UTAPStack detects it and offers a one-click path back into the system without requiring you to start over from AROWS-R manually.
