Overview
Tab Reaper helps keep Chrome fast and manageable by automatically closing inactive tabs using clear and predictable rules.
If you tend to accumulate many open tabs over time, Tab Reaper quietly cleans them up based on inactivity, without interfering with the tabs you are actively using.
—
How it works
Tabs that have not been accessed for a configurable period are automatically closed
- Pinned tabs are protected by default
- Active tabs and internal browser pages are never closed
- Cleanup runs periodically in the background with minimal overhead
—
Configuration
Tab Reaper is fully configurable through its options page:
- Set how long a tab must be inactive before it is closed
- Choose how often inactive tabs are checked
- Keep pinned tabs
- Exclude tabs that are playing audio
- Optionally avoid closing tabs in the active window
This allows the extension to fit a wide range of workflows, from conservative cleanup to more aggressive tab management.

Privacy
Tab Reaper does not collect, store, or transmit any user data.
It does not use analytics, tracking, or remote code.
All logic runs locally in the browser.
Only the minimum permissions required to manage tabs and store settings are used.
