What is true cost basis?
True cost basis is the net cost you have spent on a stock to own a certain amount of shares. Say you buy 10 shares of TSLA at $100, and sell 5 shares at $200, the true cost basis for the remaining 5 shares is 10x$100 - 5x$200 = $0, which means your true cost to own 5 shares TSLA is 0.
