Simple Screen Recorder is a lightweight Chrome extension for fast screen recording.

It lets you record:
Entire screen
A single window
A browser tab

It supports:
System audio, when Chrome and your OS provide it
Microphone audio, mixed into the recording
Local download only, with no cloud storage and no uploads

This extension is built for people who want a simple recorder without extra accounts, dashboards, or syncing.

Choose what to record using Chrome’s built in source picker
Preview the selected source before recording
Start or cancel recording with one click
Record system audio and microphone audio together
Download the recording directly to your computer after stopping

Important notes

Audio support depends on what you choose in Chrome and your operating system.
Tab recording usually supports tab audio if you enable the audio share option in the Chrome picker.
Window recording often does not include system audio.
Full screen system audio support depends on Chrome and OS support.
Output format may be MP4 on supported devices, otherwise it falls back to WebM.

Step by step, how to use

Click the extension icon in Chrome.

Leave “Include microphone audio” checked if you want your voice in the recording.

Click “Choose Source”.

In the Chrome picker, choose one of these:
Entire screen
Window
Chrome tab

If you choose a tab and want tab sound, enable the Chrome audio share option in the picker.

Click “Share” in the Chrome picker.

Allow microphone access if Chrome asks and you want mic audio recorded.

Check the status in the extension window:
System audio shows if Chrome provided system sound
Microphone shows if your mic is connected and allowed
Recorded audio shows what will be recorded

Click “Record” to start.

When finished, click “Stop”.

Choose where to save the file on your computer.

Your recording is downloaded locally. Nothing is uploaded.

Troubleshooting

No microphone audio
Make sure “Include microphone audio” is checked before choosing the source
Allow microphone permission in Chrome
Check your microphone input in system settings

No system audio
If recording a tab, make sure tab audio sharing is enabled in the Chrome picker
Try tab recording instead of window recording
Check OS level audio capture support for full screen recording

Saved as WebM instead of MP4
This is normal on some devices and Chrome setups
The extension saves in the best format supported by your browser
