Overview

🇸🇦 Saudify - Arabic to Saudi Dialect Converter

Saudify converts Arabic text into authentic Saudi Arabic dialect directly on any webpage. Simply highlight Arabic text, click the Saudify button, and the text is instantly converted in place. It works on Gmail, Twitter/X, WhatsApp Web, Google Docs, news sites, and any other website where you encounter Arabic text.

How It Works

1. Highlight any Arabic text on a webpage
2. A floating "Saudify" button appears near your selection
3. Click the button or right-click and choose "Saudize this"
4. The selected text is replaced with its Saudi dialect equivalent

Supported Conversions

Saudify handles conversions from multiple Arabic varieties into Saudi dialect:

- Modern Standard Arabic (MSA/Fusha) to Saudi
- Egyptian Arabic to Saudi
- Levantine Arabic (Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian, Palestinian) to Saudi
- General Arabic text normalization to Saudi speech patterns

The conversion engine covers hundreds of transformation rules across pronouns, verbs, common expressions, greetings, connectors, negation patterns, and everyday vocabulary.

Three Dialect Intensity Levels

- Light: Subtle changes that stay close to Modern Standard Arabic while adding a gentle Saudi flavor. Ideal for formal or semi-formal contexts.
- Medium: Natural, everyday Saudi dialect as commonly spoken in cities like Riyadh. This is the default setting and works well for most situations.
- Heavy: Strong colloquial Najdi dialect with deeply regional expressions. Best for casual conversations and informal text.

Smart Arabic Detection

Saudify uses Unicode-based analysis to accurately identify Arabic script. It activates only when genuine Arabic text is selected. The detection system specifically filters out Persian and Urdu text by recognizing characters unique to those languages (such as the Persian letters pe, che, zhe, and gaf). This prevents false activations when selecting non-Arabic text that uses Arabic script.

Two Conversion Modes

- Replace Mode: The selected text is immediately replaced with the Saudi dialect version. Fast and direct.
- Preview Mode: A side-by-side comparison panel shows the original and converted text before you apply the change. This lets you review the conversion before committing.

Privacy-First Design

All text conversion happens locally in your browser by default. No text is ever sent to any server. No browsing data, analytics, or personal information is collected. The extension does not use cookies, trackers, or any third-party analytics services.

The only exception is the optional AI-powered conversion feature, which you must manually enable and configure with your own API key. When enabled, only the specific text you choose to convert is sent to the API. This feature is disabled by default and clearly disclosed in the settings.

Optional AI-Powered Conversion

For users who want higher-quality, context-aware conversions, Saudify supports an optional integration with OpenAI's API. You provide your own API key in the settings, and the extension uses it to send selected text for AI-powered dialect conversion. This produces more natural and fluent results, especially for complex sentences, idiomatic expressions, and context-dependent phrasing. This feature is entirely optional and turned off by default.

Available in Six Languages

The extension interface is available in:
- English
- Arabic
- Turkish
- Spanish
- German
- French

The language can be set manually or detected automatically from your browser settings. When Arabic is selected as the interface language, the UI switches to right-to-left layout.

Built for All Websites

Saudify uses content scripts and a MutationObserver to work reliably on both static and dynamic web pages, including single-page applications. It handles text in regular HTML elements, contenteditable regions, text inputs, and textareas. The extension's floating button and preview panel are rendered inside a Shadow DOM, which prevents any visual or functional interference with the host webpage.

Context Menu Integration

In addition to the floating button, Saudify adds a right-click context menu option labeled "Saudize this" that appears when you select text. This provides a convenient alternative for users who prefer the context menu workflow.

Lightweight and Fast

Arabic text detection happens in under 50 milliseconds. The extension loads its scripts efficiently and does not affect page load times. No background network requests are made unless the optional API feature is active.

Settings and Customization

Access settings through the extension popup or the full options page:
- Enable or disable the extension globally
- Toggle the floating conversion button on or off
- Toggle automatic Arabic detection
- Choose dialect intensity: light, medium, or heavy
- Choose conversion mode: replace or preview
- Select your preferred UI language
- Configure optional API key for AI-powered conversion

Built-In Testing

The extension popup includes a built-in test area where you can type or paste Arabic text and see the conversion result instantly. This lets you experiment with different intensity levels without needing to navigate to a webpage.
