Proctly – Exam Monitor enables secure, browser-based exam supervision through automated monitoring, identity verification, and behavior tracking. It runs only during active exam sessions and provides administrators with actionable review data.

## Key Features

**📸 Tab Screenshot Capture**
Automatically captures screenshots of the active exam tab at configurable intervals and securely uploads them to the Proctly server for review.

**🎥 Webcam Monitoring**
Takes periodic webcam images throughout the exam session and displays a small live preview overlay so students can see their camera feed.

**🎤 Audio Recording**
Records ambient audio during the exam for later review to help detect unauthorized communication.

**👤 Face Verification**
Uses AI-based face detection for identity verification before the exam begins. The session starts only after a clear face match is captured and confirmed.

**🛡️ Violation Detection**
Continuously monitors activity and flags potential violations in real time, including:

* Window or app switching (leaving Chrome)
* Exam tab close attempts
* Copy, cut, and paste activity logging
* Optional clipboard blocking when enabled by the administrator

**🔗 URL Tracking**
Logs all visited URLs with timestamps during the exam session, providing full visibility into browsing behavior.

**💓 Live Heartbeat Connection**
Maintains an active connection with the Proctly server to keep the session synchronized and continuously report status.

## How It Works

1. Open the extension and enter your name, email, and exam session token.
2. Click **Join Session** to connect.
3. Review the exam settings and select **Start Exam**.
4. Grant camera and microphone permissions when prompted.
5. Complete face verification.
6. The exam page opens automatically and monitoring begins.
7. Click **End Exam** when you finish.

## Privacy & Data Handling

* Monitoring runs only during active exam sessions.
* Students are clearly notified when monitoring is enabled.
* All captured data is securely transmitted to the institution’s Proctly server.
* No data is collected outside exam sessions.
* Only the active exam tab is captured—not the full desktop.
