ChatGPT says, "What can I help with?"
This extension transforms your AI chatbot responses from first-chatbot singular ("I") to first-chatbot plural ("We"). It does simple text replacement and nothing else. Works on Claude and ChatGPT.
For all of human history, we have reserved "I" for humans. It's a very powerful word, and it doesn't make sense to me that we would group a genuinely new kind of entity into "I".
Language can divide—"gender critical" groups use it to ostracize trans people. It can also unify—in Rastafarian philosophy, "I and I" replaces "we" to express that we all spring from a shared consciousness.
We would benefit from exploring different pronouns for AI: both to remind and caution us that it is not one of us, and to honor the fact that it is a separate entity.
While Anthropic and OpenAI have chosen the familiar "I," it's healthy to signal separation between AI and human.
And "How can we help you today?" is more honest, because it signals that a collective intelligence is responding. The problem for AI companies is that "How can we help you today?" also makes it sound like you are talking to the company. Which is also true. If "we" were used, then it must be threaded into the rest of the conversation. "Sorry, we can't help you with that right now." or "We like where you're going with this idea!"
