What it does:
This extension connects the kaimdt Converter web app with your system's native FFmpeg installation. This enables high-performance hardware encoding via GPU-based engines like NVENC, QuickSync, AMF, or VideoToolbox — capabilities that standard browsers cannot access on their own.

Why install it?
Performance: Up to 10× faster video conversions by utilizing your GPU instead of browser-based processing (WASM), depending on your hardware.

Privacy: All conversions happen directly on your machine — no files are ever uploaded to a server.

Flexibility: Works as an optional enhancement. The web app can still fall back to in-browser conversion if the extension is not present.

Transparency: Zero telemetry, zero tracking, and fully functional offline after the initial setup.

How it works:
1. Install this extension.
2. Setup Native Bridge: To enable GPU features, a one-time setup of the open-source Native Messaging Host is required. Detailed instructions and the source code are available on our official setup page.
3. Open converter.kaimdt.dev — the extension is detected automatically.
4. Select "HW Bridge" as your conversion engine to activate hardware acceleration.
