Is It Worth It

Overview
Before you buy, see what that money could become.
Is It Worth It? detects product prices while you shop online and shows you the long-term opportunity cost — what that money would grow to if you invested it instead.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Browse any shopping site. The extension detects the product name and price automatically.
2. Click the extension icon to see the opportunity cost — e.g. "$89 headphones → $237 in 20 years at 8% return."
3. Add the item to your watchlist. A configurable cooling-off timer starts (default: 3 days).
4. When the timer ends, you get a notification with a reflection prompt — a question to help you decide if you still want it.
5. If you skip the purchase, it moves to your Savings Scoreboard — a running tally of money you kept and its projected future value.
FEATURES
• Automatic product detection — reads product names and prices from the page on most major online stores.
• Opportunity cost projection — shows future value at your chosen return rate and time horizon.
• Cooling-off timer — configurable wait period (1–30 days) before you decide. Helps separate impulse from intention.
• Reflection prompts — 21 rotating questions like "Would you still want this if nobody could see you own it?" and "Does this purchase move you closer to a goal you care about?"
• Savings Scoreboard — tracks every purchase you skipped, with a running total of how much that money could grow.
• Calculator integration — links directly to VaporCalc's Opportunity Cost calculator for detailed projections with charts.
• Data sync — if you visit vaporcalc.com with the extension installed, your watchlist syncs between the extension and the site automatically (all local, nothing sent to any server).
YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE
All data (watchlist, savings, settings) is stored in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to any server except optional anonymous usage stats (which features you use — never product names, prices, or URLs). You can turn telemetry off in settings.
SETTINGS
• Return rate assumption (default: 8%)
• Investment time horizon (default: 20 years)
• Cooling-off period (1–30 days, default: 3)
• Anonymous telemetry on/off
