Facefact

Facebook is flooded with fake news and half-truths, and I wanted a way to check posts for myself — not wait on platforms to catch up. Inspired by X's "Explain this post" button, I built FaceFact: a Chrome extension that drops a "Verify this post" button next to every Facebook post. One click runs an AI pipeline with live web search to fact-check the claims and return a verdict with sources — that's the whole vision.

**How it works:**

1. A "Verify" button appears on Facebook posts as you scroll.
2. Click it. FaceFact extracts the post text and sends it to our verification backend.
3. The AI pipeline runs four steps in real time: gather context, summarize the post, categorize the content, and verify claims against reliable sources.
4. You see a verdict (Verified, Likely True, Unverifiable, Likely False, or False) with confidence scores, evidence, and source links.

**Smart categorization:**

Not every post needs fact-checking. FaceFact automatically detects opinions, personal updates, humor, and promotional content, and lets you know when fact-checking does not apply — saving your daily checks for posts that matter.

**Privacy first:**

- Only the post text you choose to verify is sent to our server. We never access your browsing history, personal data, or any posts you do not click "Verify" on.
- Email registration is required (magic-link activation, no password).
- Cached results are stored locally in your browser and expire after 24 hours.
