Privacy first:

All tab data stays locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage. Chrome Tidy never sends your browsing history, URLs, or tab contents to any external server. Tag configurations can optionally sync across devices via your signed-in account — no browsing data is ever uploaded.

Permissions explained:

tabs: Read tab titles, URLs, and status to display and organize them
tabGroups: Create and manage Chrome tab groups by tag
storage: Save your tags and settings locally
contextMenus: Add tag assignment to the right-click menu
alarms: Periodic memory usage polling (Pro feature)
