AT Super Filter adds a powerful, three-layer keyword filtering system directly to AutoTrader search results — no tab-switching, no spreadsheets. Just scan, filter, and compare matched cars without ever leaving the page.

HOW IT WORKS

Click the funnel icon on the right edge of any AutoTrader search results page to open the filter panel. Add your keywords, hit Scan, and the extension fetches the full specification data for every listing on the page — engine size, service history, owners, MOT, colour, features, running costs, and more — then scores and ranks every car against your criteria.

THREE-LAYER FILTER SYSTEM

▸ Layer 1 — Must Include

Keywords that a listing must match before it's considered. Toggle between 'ANY' mode (at least one keyword must match)
OR
'ALL' mode (every keyword must be present). Listings that don't pass are dimmed so you can still see them but they're clearly deprioritised an un-matched listing

Useful for specific colours or a subset of must have features

Examples: "pearl paint", "heated seats", "apple carplay"*

▸ Layer 2 — Nice to Have

Keywords that boost a listing's score in the results. Matched listings are ranked higher — useful for surfacing cars that tick more of your boxes without hard-filtering the ones that don't.

Examples: "panoramic roof", "reverse camera", "lane assist"*

▸ Layer 3 — Exclude

Any listing matching these keywords is hidden entirely from the page.

Examples: "stage 1", "forged, "salvage", "import"*

DEEP SPEC SCANNING

AT Super Filter doesn't just search the text visible on the card. For each listing it calls AutoTrader's own product API and scans the full specification dataset including key specs, vehicle history (service history, owners, MOT, keys), running costs (road tax, insurance group, CO₂), the full features list, seller description, and vehicle highlights. This means keywords like "full service history" or "1 owner" match against structured data fields — not just whatever text happens to appear on the card.

RESULTS PANEL

After scanning: matched count, min/median/max price, average mileage, and a ranked list of every matched car with thumbnail, price, mileage, seller type, year, distance, MOT date, and matched keyword chips. Toggle between "Matched only" and "All listings" view. Results are ranked by Layer 2 score → mileage → price.

BADGE OVERLAYS ON CARDS
──────────────────────────────────────────

Every processed card gets a badge strip showing seller type (Private/Dealer), registration year, distance, green ✓ chips for Layer 1 matches, and purple ★ chips for Layer 2 matches. Dimmed cards still show the meta badges so you can scan them at a glance.

When you open an individual listing, a matched keyword banner appears near the price section showing exactly which of your keywords were found in that car's full spec data — persisted from your last scan, so it works across tabs.

COMPARISON TABLE

Hit "Comparison table →" to open a full-page sortable table of all matched listings in a new tab. Columns cover every spec field — price, mileage, year, fuel, gearbox, body type, engine, emissions, service history, owners, MOT, road tax, insurance group, CO₂, distance, seller type, and date listed.

PERSISTENT PANEL & PRIVACY

The draggable edge pill keeps the panel accessible without getting in the way. All keywords and settings are saved between sessions. AT Super Filter only runs on www.autotrader.co.uk, collects no personal data, and only contacts AutoTrader's own API to fetch listing spec data — nothing leaves your device.

LIMITATIONS
──────────────────────────────────────────

Not all listings/ads are created equal and many listings fail to list specific colours, options and history clearly in their advert, so you may risk filtering cars that meet your criteria but are removed due to a poorly detailed advert.
