Overview
OVERVIEW
Alt Text Auto-Fill is a free, Open Source Chrome extension developed by the Software for Progress Foundation to make the internet more inclusive. Using TensorFlow.js and the coco-ssd model, it automatically generates alt text for images, ensuring that people who rely on screen readers can access the same content as everyone else.
This extension reflects our mission: accessibility is not optional — it is a right. By keeping it free, offline, and Open Source, we’re breaking down barriers and giving individuals, educators, and developers the ability to make the web a more welcoming place for all.
100% Offline | 100% Free | 100% Open Source

WHY ALT TEXT MATTERS
Alt text is more than a technical requirement — it is a matter of dignity and access.
- Equity – Over 285 million people worldwide with visual impairments deserve the same access to information as sighted users.
- Inclusion – Alt text ensures that communities often left behind can participate fully in digital spaces.
- Resilience – Alt text provides context when images don’t load or when connections are slow.
- Progress – A more accessible web is a more just web.
When we add alt text, we’re not just improving compliance — we’re ensuring human connection.

FEATURES
